Earlier this week, Chrysler--one of America's "Big 3" automakers--took out advertisements in USA Today and the Wall Street Journal to thank America for "investing" in them.
They paid $100,000 to run the full-page, color advertisements.
Actually, they paid $100,000 of your money to take out an ad to thank you for money that the United States Government gave them to keep their failing company afloat. Money that came from the recent taxpayer-financed bailout of the Detroit car manufacturers. They wasted $100,000 of your money right off the bat.
The ad, titled "Thank you America," had the following letter from Chrysler LLC's CEO, Bob Nardelli:
Thank you for investing in Chrysler - America's Car Company.
Chrysler is committed to:
- Providing cars and trucks you want to buy, enjoy driving, and will want to buy again.
- Delivering products with the best quality and value in our Company's history.
- Improving fuel economy to support Americas energy security and environmental sustainability.
The United States is home to 74% of our employees and over 3,300 dealers in communities across this country. Of every dollar we spend, 78% is spent here at home. On behalf of the 1 million people who depend on Chrysler for their livelihoods, thank you for investing in Chrysler, and America.
Bob Nardelli
Chairman and CEO, Chrysler LLC
Here's what I think the advertisement should have said:
SUCK IT AMERICA
Thank you for saving the ass of Chrysler - America's Car Company - for the second time in your life.
Chrysler is committed to:
- Providing cars and trucks that people didn't buy in the first place.
- Selling every vehicle at a loss because of our archaic business model.
- Improving fuel economy because the Government is making us do it.
The United States is home to 74% of our union drones and over 3,300 dealers across this country who have to try and come up with a way to sell our product every day. Of every dollar we spend, 78% is spent here at home on exorbitant labor costs and parts we guarantee you'll need to replace. We're still failing, but now we're using your money instead of ours and that's better for America.
On behalf of the 1 million people union cronies and incompetent managers who suckle at the teat of Chrysler, thank you for taking it in the shorts for Chrysler once again, America.
At least that way there might be a little "truth in advertising."
Very nice.
