Before results even started coming in last night, the networks telegraphed what they had been sitting on all day long.
The "breaking news" headlines on all of the websites for the major news outlets said something to the effect of "voters upset about the economy."
Several weeks ago, I said that I though this election would turn out more like 1992 than 1980. '92 was completely about the economy and Bill Clinton won the presidency on the back of four words, "It's the economy, stupid."
Before the votes were even counted last night, I knew who would win. The only uncertainty would be the margin of victory. John McCain never stood a chance.
So, now we are faced with President-Elect Barack Obama. Clearly, to quote an email from my friend Ken Gorrell, "We've just elected the most liberal President with the weakest resume in history."
The campaign to hold Barack Obama accountable for 2012 starts now. ObamaWatch.us is coming soon...
More post-election analysis later today...

Obama built an organization the likes of which no one has ever seen. Our leaders need to do the same.
I agree...his organization and GOTV effort really were impressive. I think our leaders, though, need to learn the difference between politics and governance. An organization only gets you so far, I think. You have to listen to the people and I think that's something our "leaders" haven't been doing for quite a while on either side.
Before we move on to ObamaWatch.us can you provide a synopsis of www.conservativeblogger.com's successes with bushwatch.us? Surely your efforts to hold Bush
accountable for 2000 through 2008 should provide some lessons for ObamaWatch.us. Or is ObamaWatch.us less about holding the incumbent accountable and more of a partisan attack site?
JC,
I think the Daily Kos, My DD and other sites have done a fine job of
charting the Bush successes and failures. They took on that role as the
party in the minority, just as I will do with obamawatch.us.
ConservativeBlogger has NEVER been an "accountability" site. That was
never its purpose. It was commentary and opinion--MY commentary and
opinion.
I did not support Barack Obama and I did not vote for him. Personally, I
don't believe he'll even come close to accomplishing all of the lofty (and
expensive) things he'll set out to do--but keeping track of it could very
well prove me wrong. Besides, Bush was never touted with near Messianic
status like Obama was.
He's over-promised and someone's got to keep him honest. It might as well
be me.
As the eventual President of the United States, I will stand by him in
times of national crisis and threat. Barring that, though, he is what Bush
was to the left: a political adversary.
But, hey...thanks for all the "hope" and "change" in your email. It just
further demonstrates to me why there will be a need for ObamaWatch.us.
Regards,
William Smith
