To Drill or Not To Drill?...

That is the question, indeed.

It would seem that the Democrats can't get their act together on how to answer it today, too.

On one hand, you have Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi adjourning the House for the five week summer break while the GOP had the floor.  She shut off the lights, the microphones and cameras and couldn't get out of town fast enough--all to prevent a vote on the off-shore drilling of oil.

The entire Democrat contingent of the House just up and left, and the GOP House members refused to leave in protest.  In fact, the GOP members even had tourists come down from the gallery to keep the protest going.

Unfortunately, it would seem that His Hope and Changingness--Pope Barack I--didn't get the talking points memo.

On the very same day that Speaker Pelosi exercised dictatorial power over proceedings in the House, Pope Barack I said he could support the off-shore drilling for oil if it were part of a larger, comprehensive energy policy designed to raise fuel efficiency and promote alternative forms of energy.

"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage - I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done."

That Barack is all about "change," all right.  Unfortunately, it's with regard to his position on issues.

To be fair, it's entirely possible that Pope Barack I is completely out of touch with his Washington bretheren.  He wasn't in the Senate...y'know--his day job...when this exchanged happened yesterday.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) asks for the Senate to consider a bill to allow drilling on the outer continental shelf, which fields an immediate objection from Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO).

McConnell then asks for the bill to be triggered when gasoline reaches the price of $4.50 per gallon. Salazar objects.

$5.00 per gallon?  Salazar objects.
$7.50 per gallon?  Salazar objects.

$10.00 per gallon of gasoline?  Salazar objects.

The fact is that the Democrats aren't interested in any kind of renewed domestic drilling for oil.  They will let the price of gasoline go as high as it possibly can and they will choose to do absolutely nothing.

The Democrats in Washington don't care one bit that you're paying twice as much for gas than you were a year ago.  No one in the House or the Senate seems to even want to talk about getting us some kind of relief.

Every Democrat in Washington is towing the same line--except Pope Barack I.  This leads me to believe that one of the following conditions must be true:

  1. Obama is out of touch with the rest of his party.
  2. Obama isn't being honest.
Considering that he's his party's presumptive nominee for President, it's highly doubtful that Pope Barack I is out of touch with the rest of the party.  Quite the opposite, really.  As the nominee and the "face" of the party, he's setting the tone.

Which leads me to the second point: if Barack truly did change his mind, he wouldn't do it without (a) discussing it with top House and Senate Democrats or (b) making a huge deal out of it.

Barack Obama is full of something and it isn't oil.

But, hey...now Pope Barack I wants to give you and me a $1,000 gasoline rebate--funded by a windfall profits tax on the oil companies.

He might be OK with drilling, but he wants higher fuel efficiency, alternative energy AND he wants to take the oil company profits??  Just how does he think that other stuff is going to get paid for?

Obama is all about the change, though.  He'll take every last dime we have and bankrupt this nation in the process.

The Democrats don't care how much we're paying for gas. They'll let it reach TEN DOLLARS PER GALLON and probably even higher.  That would be over $100 for most people to fill up and, at that point, it's a choice between food and gasoline for some.

If you're thinking of voting for Barack Obama (or any other Democrat) in this upcoming election, are you really sure you want to do that??

Can you afford to?
