Seven months ago, I made my decision regarding which candidate I would support in the New Hampshire Primary. I didn't expect to make a decision so quickly. I figured that, like most New Hampshire residents, I'd make up my mind down the road and much closer to voting day.
On June 6, I was an undecided voter in the New Hampshire Primary.
On June 7, I endorsed former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States and I gave him my vote.
Now, on January 8, I whole-heartedly urge you to do the same thing.
Like many Granite Staters, I like to see a candidate several times, and I have indeed done that with Mitt Romney. You know, I don't understand the people that say they don't see the fire in Mitt's belly or that he seems too slick. I've seen a lot of politicians and, when I seen and talked to Mitt Romney, I absolutely sense his passion--and it's a passion for America.
Folks, believe me when I tell you that this man did not plan his career around aspirations for the presidency. It wasn't his goal or his plan to be President. He felt it was his responsibility to run because he knows that things in Washington are broken. He sees what we all see--dissatisfaction and discontent from voters over the fact that Washington never makes progress on anything.
It's time for a change and it's time for some new blood in Washington--someone whose last name isn't "Bush" or "Clinton." Someone who has governed efficiently and fairly and cleaned up a huge mess of bureaucracy.
If you've paid attention to the MainStream Media for the last few weeks, they've made it sound like the idea of Mitt Romney changing Washington is a new theme for his campaign. It isn't. I can tell you from the first "Ask Mitt Anything" I went to in June of 2007, the notion of changing Washington has always been a central theme of his campaign. It's not a new idea--and it's certainly not the exclusive domain of Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
Mitt Romney isn't too slick or too polished, we've just had eight years of someone who can't pronounce a simple word like "nuclear."
Mitt Romney isn't a "flip-flopper." He's made principled changes in the way he looks at issues because of situations he's encountered as Governor and through life experiences.
Mitt Romney isn't just saying what people want to hear; he's telling us what we need to hear.
I'm not typically in the business of telling people for whom they should cast their vote but, to me...this time...the stakes are much higher. I feel that in order to take this country back and right the ship, we need to elect Mitt Romney to the White House.
I don't make endorsements lightly or give away my vote easily. Not at all. You shouldn't either. A candidate for President should submit to your scrutiny and your standards and I believe Mitt Romney passes that test. I know he does for me.
The only way things will ever get better in Washington is if we send someone to clean things up.
I ask you now--I implore you--when you go to the polls to vote in the New Hampshire Primary or in your local electoral contest--please...cast your vote for someone who can truly be a catalyst for change in our Nation's capitol. When you go to the polls, I ask you to cast your vote for Governor Mitt Romney.
It all starts here and it starts today. Let's send Mitt to the Oval Office.
Thank you...
William Smith
