It only takes a second...

(If you are unable to see the embedded YouTube video, please click here.)

I don't know if you're anything like me, but I tend to get a little emotional when I thank our troops. In the past, I've fought back tears when I've shaken their hands and looked them in the eye and said, "thank you." Their level of commitment and love for this country is something that truly overwhelms me at times. It gives me great perspective at times: I work in a technological field and get to do some pretty cool things...but these people would give their lives in my defense. Honestly, I don't know how anyone couldn't get choked up a little thinking about it in those terms.

Although they're certainly not painted that way by the media, our men and women in uniform are truly the best our nation has to offer. They have chosen to wear the flag of the United States on their shoulder and protect our very way of life. They put themselves in harm's way so that we don't have to.

Please, the next time you see a member of our Armed Forces, take two seconds out of your day to say "thanks." It's a gesture that they'll remember and I guarantee that you will, too.
