I Shook the Hand of "Crazy" Yesterday...

I had the occasion yesterday to go to the latest "Politics and Eggs" forum, held at the Bedford Village Inn in Bedford, New Hampshire. This is a forum where candidates come and address people from business over breakfast, co-hosted by The New England Council and the New Hampshire Political Library.

The featured speaker yesterday was none other than Frank Perdue Congressman Ron Paul of Texas.

Folks, I shook the hand of "Crazy." That's my new name for him. That's short for "bat-sh*t crazy," if you must know. (Perhaps I'll use the more family-friendly "bat-guano crazy.")

This guy would be the perfect president...for the Spanish/American War.

Breakfast was great and Crazy spoke for about 20 or 25 minutes before taking questions. I wanted to ask him about his wanting to close down the FBI, but when it came down to the final question, he chose a 13 year-old girl before me.

He shook hands and autographed the souvenir wooden eggs that everyone attending received. (It's called "Politics and Eggs," remember?) When it was my turn, I walked up and asked him, "Congressman, I've been hearing a lot that you want to close down the FBI. Do you really think that's wise? How would you handle interstate crime?"

Well, it was as if I opened the flood gates. He started on a tear about the FBI which led to the CIA and Martin Luther King, Jr. No lie. I'm not making this up.

Ron Paul says he doesn't want to close the FBI, necessarily, but he wants to significantly curtail their responsibility and power. He then talked about warrantless wiretaps and then--believe it or not--complained how the FBI used to monitor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Folks, that happened under J. Edgar Hoover---and he's been dead for thirty-five years.

The then went on about the intelligence community and the CIA and how he'd eliminate that. Oh, he still feels there's other ways to gather the intelligence. He just doesn't want the CIA.

At least Crazy signed my egg.

I'll be happy to sell it to the RuPaul Crazy supporter that makes the highest offer. I mean, he believes in free market rule, right?
