"Fred!" Finally Back in NH...

After two months where he apparently misplaced his GPS, former Tennessee Senator Fred Dalton Thompson was back in the Granite State campaigning. He was a mere 2.5 miles down the road from my fashionably-cluttered home office at the Bedford Village Inn attending a "Politics and Eggs" breakfast with local business people.

It seems like forever since he's been here, that I just wanted to reach out and show him I cared.

It made me wish that Casey Kasem were still doing America's Top 40 because I'd send the erstwhile actor and current Presidential candidate one of Casey's infamous "Long Distance Dedications." In my mind, it would go something like this...

Now we're up to our Long Distance Dedication and this one is about Presidential politics and the First in the Nation Primary. It's from a man in Manchester, New Hampshire...

And he writes...

Dear Casey,

I'm writing to you from southern New Hampshire where we see almost as many Presidential candidates as we do falling leaves this time of year. I've said some hurtful things to Fred Thompson and...well...I want him to hear what I have to say instead of reading it off my blog, ConservativeBlogger.com.

Fred has been busy being other places and I thought he should be here. While the other candidates were working the neighborhoods here in New Hampshire, Fred was nowhere to be found and I took it personally--as did a lot of New Hampshirites.

Well, Fred is back in our state and I just wanted him to know that bygones are bygones. We're happy to see him here...finally...and we look forward to meeting him in his travels. I was wrong to take out my anger and frustration on Fred and I whole-heartedly apologize for having done so.

Casey, could you please play something for Senator Thompson to let him know that we wish him nothing but the best?

Sincerely,
William Smith

William, thank you for your letter. What better song to show Senator Thompson that there are no hard feelings than this song from the year 1984? It went to number one for three straight weeks in the fall of 1984, just before Ronald Reagan's landslide re-election. It also would go on to win a Golden Globe and the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The artist is the legendary Stevie Wonder. The song? "I Just Called To Say I Love You."

William...here's your Long Distance Dedication...

OK...so maybe that's a bit over the top.

The point is that voters here in New Hampshire are forgiving, despite what the pundits in the MSM say. As long as Fred is here and getting out to the cities and towns to meet people, they'll have a short memory. While we may not "love" him, we certainly would be willing to sit down with him for coffee. You know...now that he's really here.

Don't stay away so long next time, Fred.
