I tried to call you yesterday.
In fact, I tried to call you all morning long yesterday and was met with nothing but a busy signal. I find it very difficult to believe that your staff was doing nothing but answering the phone for four hours, so I can only assume you were avoiding your constituents.
By the way, I'm one of your constituents. I grew up in New Hampshire, I live and work here in New Hampshire and I blog here in New Hampshire. (Thousands read this, one of the first national politics blogs in New Hampshire which went on line in 2003.)
I've voted for you many times--for Governor of New Hampshire and for United States Senator. Until yesterday, you enjoyed my support. That is no longer true.
Our relationship ended as of yesterday. That's when you voted for cloture on the latest iteration of Kennedy's immigration bill.
See, Judd, I've been trying to find out how you were going to vote on this immigration bill for weeks. Anytime I called your office your staff said that you "hadn't made up your mind." There was also no mention of the illegal immigration "compromise" anywhere on your Senate website. You attempted to keep your opinions on the bill a secret because you knew how you were going to vote all along.
In other words, Judd, you were an absolute coward on this whole issue.
I'm not just disappointed in you, Judd. I'm thoroughly disgusted with you. This bill isn't a "grand compromise," it's a grand sell-out of American sovereignty and, thanks to you and four other Republicans, this "shamnesty" bill is still alive.
No less than seventy percent of the American people think this bill is atrocious and shouldn't be law. SEVENTY percent. Last I knew, you were put in office to represent the constituents that elected you. Sununu got the vote right, but you felt it necessary to appease President Bush and Teddy Kennedy. You're a sell-out and an embarrassment to the people that cast votes for you.
So, here's how this is going to go down, Judd:
I'm never voting for you again.
I'm never donating money to your campaign.
I will work to ensure you are not re-elected to the United States Senate for another term.
I will donate money to your opponent.
I will work the phones for your opponent.
I will do everything I can to ensure that your retirement begins at the end of your term in 2010.
And, Judd...I'm a registered Republican. I've never voted for a Democrat in my life but that's all going to change thanks to you.
I hope you banked that $850,000 you won in the Powerball lottery in 2005. You're going to need it when your retirement starts on December 31, 2010. Your days as my elected voice in the Senate are officially numbered.
