Is it just me, or did I miss the memo that says "sub-tropical storms" are a news worthy event?
I'm going back to my english classes from junior high school and...call me crazy...but I seem to recall that the prefix "sub" means beneath. That tells me that a sub-tropical storm is something that's less than a real tropical storm.
So, now, a storm that comes in from the ocean and sends some thunderstorms and winds into South Carolina is apparently worthy of naming and spreading panic.
Unbelievable.
I can tell you where there's a sub-tropical depression. Right here in Manchester, New Hampshire in my home office.
These Doom and Gloomers are just killing me.
UPDATE - 6:14pm EDT: Oh my GOD, I just got this email from the National Weather Service regarding a severe thunderstorm in my area. We'd better get someone to name this storm! It could very well be stronger than Sub-Tropical Storm Andrea!!
The NWS in Taunton has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for: extreme Southeastern Hillsborough County in southern New Hampshire, until 545 pm edt.
At 519 pm edt, National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. (Ed. note: emphasis added.) This storm was located near Pelham, or about near Lowell, and moving north at 20 mph.
The severe thunderstorm will otherwise remain over mainly rural areas of the indicated county.
This is a dangerous storm. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail, and deadly cloud to ground lightning. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.
