Ann Coulter has opened her big mouth again, this time at CPAC--the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC. Here's the video...

Coulter is one of the most identifiable faces in Conservatism and that's a problem because she doesn't care about advancing Conservatism as much as she cares about selling books by Ann Coulter.
There is absolutely nothing about Coulter or her comment that is defensible.
It seems that she uses "shock value" from time to time to get herself some press and that, I think, is the problem. Sure she can say whatever she wants but she's linked somewhat inexorably to the rest of Conservatism--and that makes her a catastrophic liability. People are already saying that this comment and the subsequent reaction in the room must mean that the GOP "must hate gay people." That's the kind of spin that Conservatives can't afford. She's done recently more to advance her own name than she's done to advance Conservatism...and that's a problem when someone is universally described as "Conservative author and columnist." People can't help but link Ann Coulter with Conservatism and Conservatism with Ann Coulter.
She's played right into the media's hand and she doesn't even see it. Now, she's hurting us all.
Ann Coulter speaks for one person: Ann Coulter. She certainly doesn't speak for the vast majority of Conservatives and definitely doesn't speak for me.
