Conservative Blogger: Remains of SSgt. Maupin Recovered in Iraq...

Following up on a blog entry I made four years ago, the remains of US Army Staff Sergeant Matt Maupin have been located in Iraq and he is finally coming home to his family.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer (with hat tip to the always great Michelle Malkin):

Maupin's remain [sic] were found in Iraq, nearly four years after he was captured by insurgents, his parents said. An Army general visited them today and gave them the news, they said.
"Matt is coming home. He's completed his mission," his father, Keith Maupin, said.
Maupin was a 20-year-old private first class when he was captured on April 9, 2004, after his fuel convoy was ambushed west of Baghdad. He had been driving a supply truck.

Maupin's remains were identified through a positive DNA match.

While I cannot even begin to fathom how the Maupins feel, they are in my thoughts tonight. They finally have what they've been searching for these last four years: an answer. Matt is making his final journey home and his parents can rest assured that their vigilance was not at all in vain.

Rest in peace, Matt Maupin.
