Conservative Blogger: McCain's Campaign on Life Support...
In a significant shake-up of his campaign today, John McCain's chief strategist, campaign manager and his long-time chief of staff and co-author of all five of his books "resigned."
Reportedly, Senator McCain accepted their resignations with "regret and deep gratitude for their dedication, hard work and friendship."
Let's translate this...
"I'm glad they're getting the hell out because I'm not raising any money and I'm placing fourth so far in New Hampshire and I won that place in 2000. They loved me. They couldn't get enough of me. I own that little state and these guys couldn't get me supporters in a women's prison with a fistful of pardons. They're lucky I didn't fire them off the roof."
John McCain has one and only one person to blame--and that's John McCain.
As soon as he aligned himself with Teddy Kennedy on the immigration bill, he doomed his chances of ever becoming President. This has nothing to do with his supporting President Bush on Iraq, this is all on McCain and his being on the wrong side of a touchstone issue for a lot of Americans.
National Campaign Co-Chair and former New Hampshire Senator Warren Rudman says that McCain's campaign has to be back on track by autumn or it will be "very difficult for him to continue."
You don't say, Senator?
I'm going to take that a step further and say that barring an amazing comeback, McCain will be out of the race by Columbus Day.
That means he has to be polling at least in second place and ahead of Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney AND have his fund raising back at top-tier levels.
That's a tall order.
