Conservative Blogger: Double Standard...

XM Satellite Radio announced today that Greg Hughes and Anthony Cumia--the radio hosts otherwise known as "Opie and Anthony"--have been suspended for 30 days. This follows comments aired on their show which detailed a violent sexual assault on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as well as sexual comments directed at First Lady Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Hughes and Cumia were defensive on their Monday show, pondering the current state of radio and complaining they were "under the same scrutiny as NPR (National Public Radio)." They also were able to sympathize with recently unemployed radio host Don Imus.

Imus, as you'll recall, was fired by CBS last month.

CBS, however, has yet to suspend Opie and Anthony.

CBS Radio airs a live simulcast of a censored version of Opie and Anthony's daily XM show. Their response? They expect O&A to be on the air tomorrow.

That seems to be a bit of a double standard, huh?

XM Radio suspended O&A because they don't think they took the situation seriously after a somewhat half-hearted apology. CBS is continuing on with business as usual.

Sounds like Opie and Anthony aren't the only ones that may not have taken the situation seriously.

The irony here is that CBS fired Opie and Anthony once before in their careers--back in 2002, when they had two listners have sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Apparently a dialog about assaulting the Secretary of State isn't offensive to CBS, but "nappy headed hos" and sex in a Catholic church are. It also means that CBS President Les Moonves is apparently a hypocrite.
