Conservative Blogger: Oh, Yeah...THAT Will Make Him Listen...
The United Nations Security Council voted unanimously today to impose sanctions on North Korea following their firing seven test missiles.

North Korea immediately rejected the resolution. Its U.N. Ambassador Pak Gil Yon said Pyongyang's missile development served "to keep the balance of force and preserving peace and stability in Northeast Asia."
Peace and stability? Puh-leeze! That little dictator running North Korea--the one who looks like suspiciously Yoko Ono--wants nothing of the sort.

I understand that this is all a first and necessary step, but the problem is that the UN Security Council has absolutely no teeth and Ono, er...I mean...Kim knows this. Look how many worthless resolutions the UN passed on Iraq that had absolutely no consequence whatsoever. The only difference is that this resolution, is already meaningless.
Until the end the council was split over whether the resolution would be adopted under Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which makes it mandatory and allows for military force if another specific resolution is adopted. China had threatened to veto the measure if Chapter 7 were mentioned, recalling the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq despite the lack of specific authorization. But Japan, the United States, Britain, France and others considered the language of the resolution tough and binding, despite the lack of Chapter 7. China did not touch on this issue in its speech to the council.
As a result, North Korea rejected the resolution in what John Bolton called "record time," and they've declared that they're going to continue with their missile program.
Big shock there, huh?
So, because there's no actual consequence in this resolution, we'll be back before the Security Council at some point. The only question is whether North Korea will have been able to successfully launch a test missile this time.
Sooner or later, it's going to happen. The only question is whether or not the UN will have the testicular fortitude to do something about it before it's too late.
